Day 1: LUCCA

Arrival in Lucca and accommodation in a centrally located  Hotel. Time for the urban trekking for visiting the charming Tuscan town embraced by its old city walls. Remember not to miss the unique Anfiteatro Square, the circle square in the heart of the town.

Day 2: From LUCCA to ALTOPASCIO

Arrival in Altopascio and accommodation in Hotel  . Luggage will be transferred by UmbriAction staff. It is possible to have dinner in one of the nice and cozy restaurants of the center of Altopascio for tasting "Farinata" or "Ribollita" or other delicious  Tuscan dish.

Day 3: From ALTOPASCIO to SAN MINIATO

Breakfast. In the first part of the stage we walk a splendid paved stretch of the ancient Via Francigena. We pass the wild and deserted area of Cerbaie, and then head towards Ponte a Cappiano, where a hostel has been created inside the ancient Medici bridge. From here we cross an ancient marsh  and go back up to the interesting historic center of Fucecchio. After passing the Arno River, we walk along the embankment towards San Miniato. San Miniato is famous as the town of Black Truffles.  Time for discovering the beauty of this tuscan hamlet and for tasting the food.

DETAILS: km 29 +203 m/ -198. (it is possible to split this long leg into 2 shorter with an overnight in Le Vedute)

Day 4: From SAN MINIATO to GAMBASSI

Wonderful but demanding stage especially for the lack of refreshment points. From San Miniato, after an hour's walk on asphalt, we take a path of extraordinary beauty along the hilly ridges of the Val d'Elsa. On the Sigerico route we meet two Submansiones: the Pieve di Coiano, in poor condition, and the Pieve a Chianni, in whose rectory a beautiful hostel has been created. Gambassi is a nice Spa town in the heart of Tuscany, a natural balcony overlooking the hills towards San Gimignano.

Day 5: From GAMBASSI to SAN GIMIGNANO

San Gimignano is world famous as the towns of towers. Arriving on foot from the valley you will enjoy the magnificent view of the town dominated by its old towers is really breathtaking!

DETAILS: km 18, +417 m / -410 m.

Day 6: From SAN GIMIGNANO to MONTERIGGIONI

This old castle that dates back to the XI century located on a hilltop is really amazing! Walking as far as the wall gate is thrilling as the experience  of remaining inside the city walls at night. It means stepping back in the past for many centuries! 

DETAILS: km 30, +628m / -641 m. (it is possible to split this long leg with an overnight in Colle di val d'Elsa )

Day 7: From MONTERIGGIONI to SIENA

The final destination of this wonderful trekking tour along the Francigena is Siena, the town of the Palio, of Piazza del Campo and of many other important historical events.

Day 8: SIENA

Breakfast and departure.

Price from € 640,00
