The Way of Saint Francis is a fantastic trail to discover the beauty of Central Italy.
Following the story of the “poor man of Assisi” we will slowly discover the beauty of this land, from Tuscany to Rome through La Verna, Gubbio, Assisi, Rieti and many other wonderful places that he crossed during his life. This is a wonderful journey in Italian History, unspoiled nature and wonderful landascapes.
The leg between Assisi and Rieti is maybe the most beautiful stretch of the whole Way of st Francis! From the Unesco Protected town of Assisi to Rieti through the most beautiful of Umbria Landscapes rich with olive groves, vineyards, steep mountains and hidyllic lakes you will walk through the unspoiled umbria Countryside that will capture your heart!

Day 1: Assisi
Arrival in Assisi and time at leisure to explore this precious gem of Italy. Accommodation in Hotel and overnight.
Day 2: From Assisi to Foligno
After breakfast departure for the hike Assisi to Foligno. 22km, +625 m / -845 m. Arrival in Foligno and time to discover the wonderful Palazzo Trinci and the center of old town. Accommodation in Hotel, overnight.

Day 3: From Foligno to Castello di Campello
After breakfast departure from the hike Foligno to Campello along the famous olive grove trail, on the hills overlooking the valley and dominated by many castles and old hamlets. Overnight in Castello di Campello.

Day 4: From Castello di Campello to Spoleto
Breakfast . Start of the walking tour from Spoleto, the beautiful capital town of the Longobards. Arrival and time at leisure to discover the roman Aqueduct (Bridge of towers), the cathedral and fortress of Albornoz that dominates the town.

Day 5: From Spoleto to Ceselli
Breakfast and departure from Spoleto to Ceselli, walking on the beautiful mountains around Spoleto.
DETAILS: km 16, +1140 m / -1220m.
Day 6: From Ceselli to Arrone
Breakfast and departure for the leg from Ceselli to Arrone, along the Nera River. Today you will walk on the valley close to Marmore Falls and the river with fantastic views and a very beautiful countryside.

Day 7: From Arrone to Piediluco
Breakfast and departure from Arrone to Piediluco, situated on the lake shores. It is an idyllic place nestled on the smooth mountains between Umbria and Lazio, ideal place for hiking.

Day 8: From Piediluco to Poggio Bustone
After breakfast departure from Piediluco to Poggio Bustone, a very panoramic place overlooking the valley of Rieti. This steep little town is a fantastic place to discover what an old “borgo” is!

Day 9: From Poggio Bustone to Rieti
Last leg of this walking tour in Umbria aon the footsteps of saint Francis. Arrival in Rieti, a nice little town of Lazio on the river Velino. Arrival and accommodation in Hotel.
