The Way of Saint Francis is the best hiking trail to discover the beauty of hidden places in Central Italy.
Following the story of the “poor man of Assisi” we will slowly walk from Florence to Rome to discover the beauty of this land.
This is the last leg of this wonderful itinerary that runs from Rieti along the Salaria Way and the unspoiled countryside as far as Rome – an unforgettable walking journey in beautiful Italy.
Day 1: Rieti
Day 2: From Rieti to Poggio San Lorenzo
Day 3: From Poggio San Lorenzo to Ponticelli
Day 4: From Ponticelli to Monterotondo
Day 5: From Monterotondo to Rome east
Day 6:From Rome east to Rome center

Day 1: Rieti
Arrival in Rieti, a nice little town situated below the Mount Terminillo and on the shores of Velino River. It is a very small town easy to discover on foot! Accommodation in your centrally located hotel and timefor the urban trekking!
Day 2: From Rieti to Poggio San Lorenzo
Departure after breakfast from Rieti to Poggio San Lorenzo, following the old Salaria way, a roman road that is still connecting Rome to Rimini. Nice and gentle hiking for your first day.
DETAILS: km 22, +555 m / -475 m.
Day 3: From Poggio San Lorenzo to Ponticelli
Departure of the trekking after breakfast from Poggio San Lorenzo to Ponticelli. This stretch offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and olive groves. Along the hike you will find the archaeological area of Trebula Mutuesca and the spectacular Romanesque Church of Santa Vittoria with its catacombs and a water well with therapeutic properties.
Ups and downs alternate between orchards, vineyards and olive fields.

Day 4: From Ponticelli to Monterotondo
Departure after breakfast from Ponticelli to get to Monterotondo, a nice old little town just off Rome. Here you will discover the authentic old roman landscape, crowded of sheeps and goats to produce the real Pecorino Romano Cheese. More challenging trail that can be shorten according to your needs.

Day 5: From Monterotondo to Rome east
Departure after breakfast for entering Rome on foot. First stop in Rome will be the eastern outskirt of the town.
DETAILS: km 24, +445m / -675m.
Day 6: From Rome east to Rome center
Last leg of this walking itinerary along the saint Francis Way is in Rome.
DETAILS: km 18, +240m / -235 m.
Day 7: Rome
Breakfast and departure or extension for visiting Rome.
