Complete Itinerary

Day 1: PERUGIA

Arrival in Rome or Perugia airport. Private transfer to your Hotel. Along the way we will stop for a half day excursion in beautiful Spello, one of the most fascinating medieval towns in Umbria.
We enjoy further free time before we make our way to the hotel to check in.

Day 2: PERUGIA

Today our full day excursion will take us to Perugia, the cosmopolitan and international capital of the region. Perugia was founded by the Etruscans around the seventh century BC. The centre is one of the largest in Italy and the main monuments of the city dates back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. We will have enough time to see the main highlights of this city before we enjoy personal free time for sightseeing, shopping and lunch.
In the afternoon, on our way back to Foligno we will make a stop in a wonderful wine estate . It is not only a winery but also a masterpiece of master Arnaldo Pomodoro, a famous architect and sculptor.
Here you will visit the cellar that is inside the “carapace”: a hard shell to protect a precious wine, the Sagrantino!

Day 3: ASSISI and GUBBIO

Today our full day excursion will take us to some important cities in Umbria. First we visit Assisi, birthplace of St Francis. Here we will see the Unesco World Heritage Site, the Basilica of St Francis and other attractions that make this city unique.
In the afternoon we will visit one of the best preserved medieval cities in Italy, the beautiful Gubbio. Gubbio is renowned for its many historical monuments and offers visitors an unforgettable glimpse into the intricate network of narrow streets.
At the center of the city stands the majestic Palazzo dei Consoli. Here, one can find various objects of historical and artistic value, such as the famous Tavole Eugubine, seven bronze plates dating back to the third century BC on which the ancient Umbrian people left one of the most important epigraphic evidence of Antiquities.

Day 4: ORVIETO and CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO

Today the full day excursion will take us to Orvieto. The site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone called Tufa. We will first visit the Underground Tunneling system, a long kept secret with labyrinths and caves and tunnels all lying beneath the surface. Their spectacular nature has also yielded many historical and archeological finds.
We will then proceed to the Pozzo di San Patrizio (extra), an enchanting well built by orders of Pope Clement VII. We will also visit the Albornoz Fortress (extra), the Duomo and other sites this city has to offer. We will also have enough time for lunch (extra).
We will later make our way towards Civita di Bagnoregio, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. We will walk through hundreds of years of history and enjoy some free time for personal sightseeing before we make our way back to our hotel.

Day 5:  VITERBO

Full day excursion today will take us Viterbo, known to be an important papal town during the middle age. We will see the Duomo, considered to be the most attractive landmark of the town together with the pope palace.
The Palace was built in the mid-1200s, at the time of the transfer of the seat of the Papal Curia, at the behest of Pope Alexander IV. Inside, the first conclave in the history of the Pontifical Church was held in the Conclave Hall. The most recent part of the large building is the wonderful Loggia, from which the Pope looked out for the blessing.
The heart of medieval Viterbo is represented by the suggestive district of San Pellegrino, an example of thirteenth-century town planning, beautifully preserved. Inside its citadel you can breathe an atmosphere of times gone by: walking through the narrow alleys, passing under small round arches, loggias and towers, stopping to admire the beautiful external stairs, known as "profferli" it is the best way to discover this district of Viterbo. Characteristics of the medieval area are also the "bridge houses", typical houses that join two buildings, separated from the road, creating low covered passages.
On the way back to the hotel stop in Montefiascone and lake Bolsena.

Day 6: SAN GIMIGNANO and MONTALCINO

For our full day excursion to discover medieval Tuscany we will visit wonderful San Gimignano, the town of towers. The city has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO: when you walk through the streets and alleys, it will seem strange that the Middle Ages was a long gone era! The tall towers, the monumental buildings, the narrow alleys and the small and characteristic shops contribute to create that atmosphere of the past that will remain forever in your memories.
Wherever you come from, San Gimignano stands out on the hill with its numerous towers; nowadays we still count thirteen of them but it is said that in the fourteenth century there were seventy-two, at least one for each wealthy family, who could thus show their economic power through the construction of a tower.
We cannot leave Tuscany without tasting one of its most famous wines, the Brunello of Montalcino. Stop in Montalcino for visiting one traditional wine estate and for tasting its fine wines.
